Please help decide between black and white shelves.?

I am trying to redecorate my living room and I need help. Walls are light-light coffee color. I am not allowed to repaint them. I have dark brown couches, dark cherry upright piano and light-green curtains. I want to put some shelves on one of the wall but I can‘t decide between black and white. I am afraid that it will be too contrast if I put black on almost white wall, and I am not sure if white will look good enough on light-light coffee color wall. I plan on putting some plants in white containers on the shelves, books, LED lights under the shelves for more light in the room and some picture frames. Please help me decide between white or black shelves. Thank you.
