How can I fix a hole in the wall in the bathroom?

I'm interested in repainting and redecorating my mom's bathroom. I'm HGTV inspired. There's a hole in the wall that was repaired but its horrible looking like there was too much put on that it doesn't blend in with the rest of the wall. I feel if I paint over it that its going to look horrible. So what can I do to fix it?
