What was remarkable about Malcolm X's life?

In Gr. 8, he told his teacher (in Omaha) he wanted to be a lawyer. His teacher said he knew he was intelligent enough to do this, but at the time, African-Americans were generally not accepted as lawyers--that he should become a mechanic. Of course, X proved his teacher to be well-meaning but wrong.
